RIACS News October 13, 2007 RIACS Researcher Supports Underwater Autonomy Demonstration EUROPA-based Planner Enables Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Dr. Ari Jonsson, Sr. Scientist at RIACS, was part of a team of researchers from the NASA Ames Research Center who collaborated with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute to develop the Teleo- Reactive Executive (T-REX), an advanced software agent designed to support autonomous activity in underwater vehicles. T-REX is based on the EUROPA planner, a planing application which was co-developed by RIACS and the NASA Intelligent Systems division and utilized as part of the MAPGEN planning and scheduling tool during the Mars Exploration Rover mission.
